BARBARA EAST
SPENCERVILLE — Barbara Ann "Barb" East, 81, of Spencerville, died 12:35 p.m., Tues. Jan. 17, 2017, at Roselawn Manor, Spencerville. She was born in Cridersville, the daughter of Ira E. & Iris (Swick) Long, who preceded her in death. On Oct. 7, 1956, she married Rex L. East and he survives.
Other survivors include, 4 children, David K. East, Spencerville, Douglas L. (Evelyn) East, Oxford, AL, LeAnn K. (Tom) McPheron, Spencerville, Scott R. (Kristina) East, Lima, 8 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren.
Barb was a 1953 graduate of Lima South High School, and a 1956 graduate of the Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing, Dayton. She worked 10 years as an RN at St. Rita's Hospital, Lima, with 3 of those years working at the TB Hospital. She then worked as a registered nurse at Westinghouse Corp., Lima for 13 years. She also worked as a paramedic for the Spencerville Ambulance Service for 17 years. She was a certified Red Cross nurse and volunteered as a school nurse at the Spencerville Elementary School. She also volunteered with the Spencerville Community Samaritans, Roselawn Manor, and the Spencerville Historical Society. She was a member of the Lima Public Library, and the Allen Co. Museum. She had worked on the election board for many years.
Barb was a member of the former Christie United Methodist Church, where she served 35 years as a Sunday school teacher, a lay leader, and was an officer with the United Methodist Women. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Spencerville.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Fri. Jan. 20, 2017, at the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, with Pastor Andrew Atkins officiating. Burial is to follow in the Maplewood Cemetery, Amanda Twp. The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m., Thurs., and 1 hr. prior to the service, Fri. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Rita's Hospice, or the Activity Fund at Roselawn manor.
