Obituary

SPENCERVILLE — Betty J. "June" Loescher, 88, died at 10:45 p.m. April 25, 2014, at Roselawn Manor Nursing Home, Spencerville, following a short illness. She was born Dec. 4, 1925, in Allen County, the daughter of Earl W. and Lucille Gaskill Smith, who preceded her in death. On Feb. 17, 1945, she married Robert V. Loescher, who died Dec. 8, 2001. Mrs. Loescher was a 1943 graduate of Spencerville High School. She worked during the war at the Lima Ordinance Depot, then at the Crane & McMahon Co. and Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., both in St. Marys, as well as the Nameplate & Monogram Co. in Spencerville. She and her husband moved to San Diego in 1952, then to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1954, where they lived for 31 years before retiring in 1984 from the family-owned concrete construction business, where she served as secretary. They then moved back to Spencerville in 1985. She is a former member of First Conservative Baptist Church in Anchorage. She was an avid fisherman who loved stream, lake and ice fishing, as well as snowmobiling and traveling. Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Violet Loescher, of Chugiak, Alaska, and Barbara Bare, of Laura; her "special" nephew, Kenneth (Siobhan) Loescher, of Anchorage, Alaska; a nephew, Joe (Evelina) Loescher, of Chicago; three nieces, Betty Rike, of Rush City, Minn., Beverly Waldrop, of Kenai, Alaska, and Sharon Yates, of Yakima, Wash.; an in-law, Debbie Loescher, of Chugiak, Alaska, and many cousins. She was preceded in death by three brothers-in-law, Orville and Rodney (Mary) Loescher and Harry Bare; and a nephew, Edward Loescher. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville. Her cousin Earl Dean Gaskill will officiate. Burial will be in Amanda Baptist Cemetery east of Spencerville. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
