SPENCERVILLE — Betty M. Whitling, 84, of Spencerville, died 4:06 a.m., Thurs., Jan. 25, 2018, at Roselawn Manor, Spencerville. She was born May 24, 1933, in Mercer Co., the daughter of Denver & Mary (Bacher) Pond, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 8, 1952, she married John M. "Jack" Whitling, and he died April 2, 2008.

Survivors include, 4 children, John (Dee) Whitling, Spencerville, Carla (Mike) Baer, Spencerville, Cheryl (Kent) Morgan, Lima, & Diana (Don) Degen, Lima, 6 grandchildren, Michael Baer, Jr., Tara Gillispie, Andrew (Jamie) Whitling, Alan (Sara) Degen, Alexandria (Lance) Arndoff, & Abby Morgan, 6 great grandchildren, Keaton Gillispie, Landyn Gillispie, Ella Gillispie, Nora Degen, Madison Whitling, & Anna Whitling. 2 sisters, Ruth (Jack) Frysinger, Van Wert, Ruby Bollenbacher, Celina, a sister-in-law, Marcele Whitling, St. Marys.

In addition to her parents & husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Whitling, and siblings, Kathryn Fisher, Carl Pond, Opal Howell, & Wayne Pond.

A 1951 graduate of Rockford High School, Betty was a homemaker and worked in the cafeteria at Spencerville Local Schools. She was also bookkeeper for over 50 years with Whitling & Sons Construction Co. She was a member of the Spencerville United Church of Christ.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wed. Jan. 31, 2018, at the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, with Pastor Scott Johnson officiating. Burial is to follow in the Spencerville Cemetery. The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m., Tues. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Spencerville United Church of Christ.
