Billie Gene (Hilty) Core passed away with her children by her side on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at Roselawn Manor in Spencerville, at the age of 82. She was born on November 9, 1942, in Lima, OH to Norman David and Betty Irene (Febus) Hilty, both who preceded her in death. On December 22, 1962, she married Robert Wayne Core who also preceded her in death, but not before the couple had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She was richly blessed with five children, all who survive her: Beth A Seibert (Bill Miron) of Lima; Bonita/Bonnie R. (Rob) Bentley of Grand Junction, CO; Brad J. (Brenda) Core and Bobbi J. (Bill) Sidey both of rural Spencerville; and stepdaughter Patricia M. Smith of Ft. Wayne, IN. Her blessings included 15 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Siblings surviving her are Christian D. (Lori) Hilty of Chagrin Falls, OH and Jacqueline S. Keysor of St. Paul, MN. Two siblings preceded her in death: David L. Hilty and Judith A. Troidl.
In 2009, Billie Core retired from HCF Management Inc. as an Office Manager. She completed her 29 year career with HCF at Roselawn Manor in Spencerville, but had also worked at HCF's Lima Manor. Billie was a 1960 graduate of Elide High School and had completed two years of undergraduate coursework at The Ohio State University's Lima Campus.
Billie Core will be remembered for her love of the farm and rural life. She shared her passion for animals and respect for nature with her children, and as such was an inspiring teacher. She also nurtured them in the importance of humility and compassion. Her many virtues included a quiet spirituality, an unfailing patience, an enduring dedication, and being a loyal friend and confidant. She was dearly loved, widely respected, and will be missed by many.
Billie Core was truly dedicated to her family, and as a result, the organizations and passions she devoted her time to reflect family involvement. She was a member of Trinity United methodist Church in Spencerville and had served as a Sunday School Teacher. Billie was a member of the Spencerville FFA Alumni and had served as Treasurer of the organization. She was also a member of the Spencerville Young Farm Wives chapter. Billie had served on the Allen County OSU Extension Advisory Committee and Homemakers Club. And she had served the Allen County Junior Fair Livestock Sale Committee as a recording secretary and a representative of the Spencerville Livestock Boosters. Billie was also an active member of Spencerville's American Bicentennial Committee and celebration. She had received the following honors: Spencerville FHA Chapter Mother, Spencerville FFA Honorary Member, and the Ohio FFA Association Distinguished Service Award.
There will be a visitation from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. The visitation will continue from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by her funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025 at the funeral home under the direction of Pastor Mark Fuerstenau. Burial will be in the Hartford Cemetery near Spencerville. Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville is caring for Billie and her family.
