Obituary

SPENCERVILLE — Rev. Carey G. Knittle, 89, formerly of the Spencerville area, passed away peacefully at 8:45 AM Friday, February 2, 2018 in the University of Michigan Hospital at Ann Arbor following a short illness. He had resided in Belleville, Mi. recently with his wife, near their daughter Amy.

He was born April 6, 1928 in Adams County, Indiana, a son of the late Gregg R. and Dortha V. Brittsan Knittle. On October 9, 1949 he married Marjorie L. Stetler, who survives.

Also surviving are his children; Vickie M. (Herschel) Caldwell of Whitehouse, TN.; Steven D. (Elena) Knittle of Navarre, FL.; Lora L. (Tim) Alley of Celina and Amy J. (David) Riddle of Bellville, MI.; his daughter-in-law; Debbie Knittle of Spencerville; 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; and his siblings; Max (Sheryl) Knittle of Willshire; Lisle (Mary) Knittle and Lucille Cole, both of Decatur, IN.

Preceding him in death are his son , Carey David Knittle; son-in-law Tony Swander; sister; Roseanna Plumley and brother-in-law; Mike Cole.

Carey was a 1946 graduate of the Decatur, IN. High School and then served in the Army following WW II in Japan. In 1965 he graduated from Huntington University with a Bible Degree, becoming an Ordained Elder in the church of the United Brethren in Christ. His pastorates for the next 35 years include Winchester Church in Monroe, IN.; Northbrook Church in Cincinnati; Monticello Church in Spencerville; Lancaster Church; and a second time at Monticello, retiring in 1995. Following that, he served as interim pastor at Hillsdale Church in St. Marys.

Funeral services will be 1 PM Tuesday in the Monticello United Brethren in Christ Church with his son-in-law; Pastor David Riddle officiating. Burial will follow in the Spencerville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11 AM until 1 PM Tuesday at the Monticello Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Christian Light Ministry.Org His grandson Keith and his wife Kristi are affiliated with it.
