Carol Jean (Stockton) Briggs, age 80, passed away the morning of February 18, 2026, at Mercy Health St. Ritas Medical Center, after heart surgery complications.

Carol was born on April 3, 1945, in Lima, Ohio to Karl K. and Vera E. (Plikerd) Stockton. On October 2, 2000, she married James Briggs, who survives in Amanda Township.

Carol was a 1963 graduate of Elida High School. She retired from the US Postal Service after 22 years. She was a member of Lima Baptist Temple, where she sang in the choir and took part in mission trips. She was a loving and caring person that was a joy to be around for all that knew her. She was a Cincinnati Reds and Bengals fan, and spent retirement traveling with her husband.

Carol is survived by her son Aaron (Lindsey) Shaffer of Lebanon, OH; a stepson Justen Briggs of Wildwood, Florida, and two step-grandchildren Conner and Jasmine Briggs, siblings Bernard (Connie) Stockton of Amanda Township and Tammy (Mike) Buettner of Lima. She was the much-beloved aunt of three nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son Stephen Shaffer, Sister Janell Stockton, and her parents.

The family will receive friends from 4pm-8pm February 20, 2026, at the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. Her funeral service will be at 1pm February 21st at the funeral home. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery following the funeral. Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville is caring for Carol and her family.
