SPENCERVILLE — Charles W. "Chuck" Sunderland, 83, of rural Spencerville, passed away peacefully at his residence at 12:45 PM Sunday, February 11, 2018 with most of his loving family at his side following an extended illness.
He was born August 31, 1934 in Logan Twp., Auglaize County, a son of the late Martin and Minnie Sunderland. On October 26, 1958 he married Marsha J. Laman, who survives, along with five children; Tamara (Tom) Miller, Denise Sunderland; Kimberly (Ray) Shelhart; Cheryl (Troy) Adams and Jon (Gina) Sunderland, all of Spencerville; grandchildren; Mike (Mary Meyer) Miller; Shawn (Mataya Edwards) Miller; Ben (Andrea Mays) Miller; Heath (Robyn) Sunderland; Derick (Bridget) Sunderland; Brandi (Mike Burton) Shelhart; Dylan Shelhart; Camey (Mark) Jackson; Cody (Kayla) Monfort; Kirstie Dennis; Tye Adams; Kristi (Joel) Walker and Alyssa Sunderland; Great grandchildren; Evelyn and Audrey Meyer; Jaxson Edwards; Lylli, Lindsey and James Miller; Heaven Mays; Mariah Godsey; Jordynn Sunderland; Connar Sunderland; Destiny Burton; Quavion and Quavious Jackson; Mekhi Wright; Lily McCullough and Colin Monfort.
Also surviving are his siblings; Vera (Leonard) Elshoff of Spencerville; Waneta Meier; and Carol (Lee) Klima, both of Wapakoneta and his in-laws; Frankie Sunderland of Spencerville and Dolores Sunderland of Buckland and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter; Deborah Sunderland and his siblings; Carl (Minnie) Sunderland; Ruth (Bob) Meeker; Mildred (Bob) Tangeman; Harold "Dutch" Sunderland; Vernon (MaryLou) Sunderland; Roger Sunderland and in-laws; Joe Meier and Everett Welch.
Chuck served in the U.S. Army and went on to work at the Hayes-Albion Company in Spencerville and then worked as a hi-lift operator at Scot-Lad Foods in Lima until retirement.
He was a member of the Northwest Ohio Field and Stream Assn. of Spencerville, where he enjoyed fishing and frog giggen. He also enjoyed camping, playing his guitar, his cowboy hat and storytelling around the Bon-fires.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, with Rev. Andrew J. Atkins officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Spencerville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2/4 and 6/8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
