SPENCERVILLE — Darrell S. Carey, 78, of Spencerville, passed away peacefully at 6:05 AM Wednesday, August 8, 2018 in the Roselawn Manor in Spencerville, with his family near.

He was born April 4, 1940 in Greene County, Ohio, the son of the late James Edgar and Marjorie Stout Carey. On August 3, 1958 he married Kay Ellen Dershem, who survives, along with three children; Angela (John) Mangette of Lancaster, N.Y.; David Carey and Tressa (Chuck) Mulholland, both of Spencerville; six grandchildren; Clay and Karlie Mangette; Alyssa (Devon) Cook; Kacie, Julie and Whitney Mulholland, one great granddaughter on the way, one sister; Karen (Tom) Price of St. Marys and his in-laws; Rex (Janice) Dershem and Connie (Gordon) Branstetter, both of Lima.

Darrell was a 1958 graduate of Spencerville High School and learned to be a meatcutter, having worked at Kroger's, Pangles Master Markets and retiring in 2014 after 25 years with Rays/Chief's Markets on Cable Road in Lima. He served from 1963 until 1968 in the Army Reserve.

He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Spencerville and had attended the Zion United Methodist Church near Elida and was member of the Northwest Ohio Field and Steam Assn. in Spencerville.

Public graveside funeral services will be at 11 AM Monday in the Spencerville Cemetery with Rev. David W. Howell officiating.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Roselawn Manor Activities Fund.
