Obituary

SPENCERVILLE — Darryl L. Hinkle, 67, of rural Spencerville, died 7:38 a.m., Fri. Jan. 19, 2018, at Kindred Hospital, Lima. He was born July 21, 1950, in Lima, the son of Paul & Margaret (Shaw) Hinkle, who preceded him in death. On Dec. 6, 1998, he married Rae Adele Briggs Bailey, and she survives.

Other survivors include, 2 sons, Matthew (Carla) Hinkle, Memphis, TN, & Jeffrey Hinkle, San Jose, CA, 4 step-children, Zacharias (Michelle Slaven) Bailey, Spencerville, Jennifer (Don) Lefik, Spencerville, Michele Bailey, Port Clinton, OH,& Micah (Marcy) Bailey, Springfield, OH, 10 grandchildren, Daniel Lefik, Gabriel Lefik, Michael Lefik, Samuel Lefik, Eli Houston, Alex Hinkle, D.J. Slaven, Wesley Slaven, Raelynn Bailey, & Aleighna Bailey, a brother, Doug (Julie) Hinkle, St. Marys.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marla Kemper.

Darryl retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 20 years, where he worked as an aircraft mechanic and power plant supervisor. He was a 1968 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School, and attended the Mt. Union United Brethren in Christ Church, near Spencerville. He was a member of the D.A.V., the N.R.A., the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He enjoyed black powder shooting, and participated in Living History-First Person Impersonations, and Civil War reenacting. His other hobbies included reading, studying history, restoring classic cars, woodworking, and fishing. Darryl was a published author, a Republican, and a fan of the John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies. However, he most enjoyed spending time with his children & grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thurs. Jan. 25, 2018, at the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville with Rev. Dale Bissell officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Spencerville Veterans at the funeral home following the funeral service. Burial is to follow the Mt. Union Brethren Church Cemetery, near Spencerville. The family will receive friends 11 a.m.- 2:00 p.m., Thurs. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the V.F.W., the American Legion, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
