Lima; David B. Lytle, 91, passed away early Wednesday morning at his residence with his family at his side.
David was born on January 30, 1931 to the late Paul and Violette Lytle in Lima. He was a graduate of Shawnee High School and continued to further his education at Ohio Northern University receiving his bachelors degree in education before completing his masters degree at Bowling Green University. After college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army serving from 1953–1954.
Once David was discharged from the military, he began his life long career at Shawnee. While at Shawnee he taught for 13 years, drove bus, coached and served as the Shawnee Middle School principal for his last 18 years. He also taught evening classes at The Ohio State University in Lima and at Wright State Lake Campus in Celina. David was very passionate about history, mostly about American history and the Civil War.
David was a proud member of the Lima Baptist Temple since 1970. He served as an usher, deacon, and 1 st School Board of the Temple Christian School. Other memberships included the NRA, American Legion Post #96 in Lima, and the Disabled Veterans.
David is survived by his wife, Phyllis, the "Angel" and "Love of His Life" for 64 years; two daughters, Vanessa (Scott) Strayer and Susan (James) Delwiche both of Lima; three grandsons, Nicholas "Nick" (Samantha) Delwiche of Rossford, Jeffrey Strayer of Columbus, and Mackenzie "Mack" (Michaela) Strayer of Lima; and one great granddaughter, Talena Strayer. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant grandson Daniel Paul Strayer.
There will be a visitation from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. His memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 with an hour of visitation prior to the service also at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home with Military Honors following the service. Burial will be held at a later date. Reverend Gary Hohman will be officiating the service.
