Donald Henderson
Cook
June 13, 1945 – June 9, 2025
Donald "Don" H. Cook ("Cookie" to his friends) went into the loving arms of his Lord and savior on Monday, June 9, 2025, after a brief stay at Vancrest of Delphos, OH.
He was born to William "Harold" and Bernice (Hensley) Cook on June 13, 1945, and spent his childhood in the little town of Lafayette, OH. Don was a wonderful storyteller, and some of his favorite stories to share came from that time period of his life. One of five children, he remained close to his brothers and sisters throughout his years; more than family, his siblings have also been counted among his many friends.
Don was a loyal servant to his country and community and served in the United States Navy. Employed as a journeyman electrician, he worked at Dana Corporation for thirty years. He also spent thirty years with the Spencerville (OH) Volunteer Rescue Squad and seven years with the Spencerville Invincible Volunteer Fire Department, saving lives and protecting those in need of his help. He was well-known in the region in which he lived, and well-liked for his vibrant personality, humor, generosity, dependability, and kindness.
He married the woman of his dreams, Linda (Vail) on December 8, 1966, in Lima, OH. Together, they raised three handsome and accomplished sons. Don was fiercely proud of and devoted to his family; his greatest treasure was his wife, children, and grandchildren, as well as his nieces, nephews. There was never any doubt that he loved them all with steadfast devotion. He passed on enumerable skills and life lessons, but the greatest gift he gave was his attention, affection, and love.
Don drew his tremendous strength of will and character from his dependence on the Lord. His faith carried him throughout his life, and he shared it with all who would listen. Countless were the hours he spent both in prayer and in studying the word of God. Anyone that knew him in the mature years of his life was aware of the depth of his faith.
Don is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Linda, his sons & daughters in law, David "Dave" (Toni), Steven "Steve" (Karen), Chad (April), five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and his siblings, William "Bill" Cook, Eugene "Gene" Cook, Wanda (Cook) Saylor, and Francis (Cook) Risner and their spouses, and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation from 2 - 4pm and 6 - 8pm on Friday, June 13, 2025 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, OH. Visitation will continue from 9 - 10am followed by his funeral service at 10am on Saturday, June 14, 2025 also at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Curry officiating. Burial will take place following the at Spencerville Cemetery with military honors by local veterans. Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville is caring for Don and his family.
