DONALD SIMPKINS
ELIDA — Donald G. "Bud" Simpkins, 78, of Elida, died at 6:40 PM Sunday, on Fathers Day, June 19, 2016 at his residence with his loving family at his side, following an extended illness.
He was born September 3, 1937 in Perry Twp., Allen County, the son of Elmer and Floy Smith Simpkins, who preceded him in death. On February 17, 1957 he married Sharon Lee Verbryke, who died March 26, 2016.
Don is survived by 4 children; Mark Allen (Denise) Simpkins of Spencerville; Richard Keith (Sindy) Simpkins; Steven Dwayne Simpkins and Barbara Ann Simpkins, all of Elida. Barbara had cared for her parents at their home. 5 grandchildren; Kevin Giese of Phoenix, AZ.; Jon Simpkins of Spencerville; Matthew (Kari) Rodriguez, Tori Simpkins and Trisha Baldauf, all of Elida; 4 great grandchildren; Alexis, Zach, Austin and Gabby Rodriguez, all of Elida; his brother-in-law Ross (Margaret) Bowsher of Lima and his in-laws; Betty (Tom) Hirn of Lima, Donna Decker of Elida and Gloria (Richard) Schwartz of Spencerville and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 2 sisters; Vera (Richard) Jackson and Doris Bowsher.
Don attended the Perry Schools and then graduated from Shawnee High School and went on to become a Computer Systems Analyst, working many years at the former Superior Coach Corporation in Lima, then the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Phoenix, AZ. and later the Holloway Sportswear Company in Jackson Center.
He had been a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Elida and is a member of the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, North of Cridersville. He was a member of the Spencerville Lions Club and was formerly a member of the Masonic Lodge. Along with his very active family, he enjoyed carpentry.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Thursday in the St. Matthew Church at Cridersville with Rev. Sharon Stonerock officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Matthew Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10:30 AM until service time on Thursday at the church.
