Spencerville; Donald L. "Stoney" Steinebrugge, 88, of Spencerville and formerly of St. Marys, passed away peacefully in the Otterbein-St.Marys Retirement Community at 9:50 AM Tuesday, December 5, 2017 with his family nearby. He had resided there for four years.
He was born March 8, 1929 in St. Marys, the son of Clifton H. and Bernice H. Hartman Steinebrugge , who are deceased. On July 19, 1968 he married Miriam F. Haller McCune, who died October 29, 2004.
Surviving are his daughter; Amy S. (Dennis) Albers of rural Wapakoneta; step-daughter Patricia Burkheimer of Van Wert; step-son; Mark (Joyce) McCune of Spencerville; grandchildren; Lauren and Austin Albers, Wapakoneta; Joshua Burkheimer and Chris Burkheimer, both of Van Wert; Chrystal (Isaiah Richardson) McCune, Hilliard; Niki (Tim McBride) McCune of Elida; Erin (Michael) DelVecchio, Dublin; Amanda McCune of Spencerville and Ava Burkheimer, Van Wert; great grandchildren; Jasmine Arrick; Keith Arrick; Rodeisha Andrews; Damia Felton; Erianne Heffner and Aiden McBride.
Preceding him in death are his step-son; Robert McCune; step son-in-law; Cloyd Burkheimer, Jr.; grandchildren, twins Danny & Robert McCune; Jim and Brent Burkheimer.
Don was a 1947 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School and served in the Army in Korea. He retired in 1989 with 39 years service at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in St. Marys.
He was a long time member of the Kossuth-Zion United Methodist Church and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #767 in St.Marys, where he loved playing cards regularly. He enjoyed his grandkids and their sports activities and was a "Diehard Wolverine" and enjoyed working cross-word puzzles and loved putting together jigsaw puzzles. In his earlier days he enjoyed golf and bowling.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Saturday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, with Reverends Bruce McDaniel and David Howell officiating. Burial will follow in the Kossuth Cemetery with the U.S.Army Honor Guard conducting military honors.
The family will receive friends from 3 until 8 PM Friday and after 10 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kossuth-Zion Memorial Fund or to the Grand Lake Home Health and Hospice.
