LIMA — Donna Jean Carey, 99, of Shawnee Twp., passed away at 1:59 PM Thursday, August 9, 2018, in the Roselawn Manor in Spencerville, with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. She had resided there for 9 years.

She was born in Spencerville July 15, 1919, a daughter of the late Vernon Grover and Alice Fae Mumea Mack. On June 1, 1941, she married Harold Arthur Carey, who died April 26, 1996.

Jean is survived by her daughter; J. Lynnette "Lynn" Harper and her granddaughter Carrie L. Harper, both of Lima; grandsons Robert E. Harper, Jr. of Cincinnati and David A. Harper of Washington, D.C.; four great-grandchildren; Kayla (Jake) Latsha and Karlie (Nate) Higgins, both of Lima; Kara (Boyan) Bashlieva of Columbus and Kelsey Trusty of Cincinnati; four great-great-grandchildren; Noah and Eve Latsha, Eleanor Higgins and Samuel Bashliev and her older sister Ruth A. McNeff of Dyersburg, TN.

Preceding her in death are her brother Robert S. (Margaret) Mack and her great-great-granddaughter Madeleine Higgins.

She was a 1937 graduate of Spencerville High School where she enjoyed swimming and basketball and her pony. She operated a sandwich shop in Spencerville and worked in health food sales. Along with her family, she enjoyed her "Boxer" dogs and gardening on the family homestead farm.

Funeral services will be at 2 PM Monday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with Rev. Andrew J. Atkins officiating. A family burial service will follow in the Shawnee Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM Monday until the service time.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Roselawn Manor Activity Fund or the Alzheimer's Association .
