Obituary

Dorothy K. Shaffer, 90, of Spencerville, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at Vancrest of Delphos.

Dorothy was born on August 25, 1934 in Van Wert County to the late John F. and Ruby G. (Reinhard) Robey. Her family had moved around when she was growing up but she graduated from Hoaglin Jackson High School. On April 7, 1956, she was united in marriage to the late Rex E. Shaffer and together they had three children. After raising her three children, she had a few different jobs and then delivered meals for Elderly Nutrition (Allen County Council on Aging Meals on Wheels).

Dorothy had many hobbies and interests. She enjoyed playing cards, crosswords, baking, cooking, gardening, and fishing. She loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed the visits she would get from her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Bill Shaffer of Spencerville, Brent Shaffer of Spencerville, and Richard (Patty) Shaffer of Delphos; three grandchildren, Calla Miller of Spencerville, Cassie (Kane) Baumgartner of Delphos, and Cory Schimmoeller of Columbus; four great grandchildren, Henry & Sawyer Miller and Brynn & Teddy Baumgartner; five siblings, Florence Nolan of Van Wert, David Robey of Michigan, Mary Young of Kenton, Carol Bowers of Lima and Nancy Robey of Delphos; and two sisters-in-law, Daomi Robey of Van Wert and Gladys (Ronald) Mumma of New Haven, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rex; daughter-in-law, Nancy Shaffer; and brothers, John Robey, Frank Robey, Bill Robey, Richard Robey, and Donald Robey.

There will be a visitation from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. Her visitation will continue from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by her funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025 with pastor Daniel Hub officiating. Burial will take place following her service at Spencerville Cemetery. Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville is caring for Dorothy and her family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Auglaize County Council on Aging or Special Friends of Northwest Ohio.
