Spencerville; Evelyn M. Harter, 105, of Spencerville, passed away peacefully at 6;40 PM Friday, October 15, 2021, in the Roselawn Manor in Spencerville, following a long historical life.
She was born November 14, 1915, in Jennings Twp., Van Wert County, the daughter of the late William H. and Hannah Masters Harter. On April 8, 1935, she married Theodore "Ted" Harter, who died October 22, 1988.
Evelyn is survived by her son Richard "Dick" Harter of Spencerville and her daughter-in-law Sylvia Harter of Lima; 6 grand children, Ricky Harter, Bob (Anne) Harter, Rebecca Harter, Jim Harter, John Harter and Amy (Jerry) Bennett-Brinkman and 3 step grandchildren, Gina (Dennis) Staples, Shelia Roth and Darrin Bowersock, 16 great grand and 6 step great grand children and many great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Dixie (James) Bennett, son Charles Harter, daughter-in-law Ruth Harter and her siblings, Emery "DicK" Harter, John Harter, Emma Forwerck, Mary "Ode" McCammon and Fanny Oackes.
She and her husband Ted owned and operated the Ted Harter Meat Market and Slaughter House for many years in Spencerville. For several years she worked as an inspector at the former Nameplate and Monogram Company in Spencerville.
Formerly she was a member of the Olive Chapel United Methodist Church in Converse and was a member of the Spencerville Historical Society.
Evelyn enjoyed the family fishing trips on their Canadian vacations, traveling, and raising her flowers and vegetable gardens.
Funeral Services will be 11 AM Saturday, October 23, 2021, in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, with Pastor Greg Wack officiating. Burial will follow in the Wright Cemetery, North West of Converse.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 PM Friday and after 10 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Spencerville War Memorial or to the Historical Society.
