Frank W. "Webb" Hayer, 85, of Spencerville, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 9, 2023, at Roselawn Manor with his family by his side.
Frank Hayer was born in Lima on June 26, 1937, to the late Frank Faze and Gladys Marjorie (Lockrem) Hayer. He grew up in the Lima area and was a graduate of Lima Senior High School. After high school, Webb became employed at Teledyne Ohio Steel in Lima for many years until his retirement. After his retirement from Teledyne, he took on some work with the Waynesfield School and the City of Waynesfield. On May 23, 2015, he was united in marriage to Emily Louise (Kruse) Fairburn at the Nazarene Church in Spencerville.
Webb was very active in his community, not only working in Waynesfield after retirement, but he was a volunteer firefighter for the Waynesfield Fire Department and drove the squad car for their EMS. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and flying. After acquiring his pilot's license, Webb would often take his kids for short flights. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Webb is survived by his wife, Emily Hayer of Spencerville; four children, Rene (Tom) Harmon of Elida, Marty (Julie) Hayer of Georgia, Caroline Hayer of Lima, and Melanie (Josh) Davidson of Waynesfield; three step-children, Cindy Fairburn of Michigan, Debra (John) Dix of South Carolina, and Dianne (Ben) Shelton of Lima; three siblings, Kaye (Mary Alice) Hayer, Sharry (Dave) Warris, and Bill Hayer all of California; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a visitation from 11-1 p.m. followed by his funeral service at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with pastor Darryl Potts officiating the service. Burial will take place following the service at Spencerville Cemetery. In honor of Webb, memorials may be given to the Church of the Nazarene in Spencerville or Grand Lake Hospice.
