Obituary

Garna E. Richeson, 90, of Spencerville, passed away to join her Lord and Savior on January 2, 2026 at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys, OH. She had life-saving surgery at Lima Memorial Hospital on December 13 and was able to return to her home, until the sudden onset of illness requiring her hospitalization on Jan 1, 2026.

Garna was born on January 16, 1935, in Spencerville to the late Garnerd E. Truesdale and the late C. Juanita [Seibert] Truesdale. She often shared her fond memories of a wonderful childhood growing up in Spencerville, alongside the Miami Erie Canal with her family and friends. She attended Spencerville High School where she demonstrated her lovely soprano voice, played violin in the orchestra, and was an excellent student with many lifelong friends.

She married the late Kenneth L. Richeson of Cushing, OK, where they resided until moving back to Spencerville in 1966 with their four children.

Garna was known for her sweet, caring, kind, empathetic personality and joyful smile. She was a selfless provider of care to her most cherished possessions, her family. She loved to bake and make soups, enjoyed lengthy, laughter filled conversations on the phone or in person with her dear family & friends, and was an avid reader of Christian-based literature. She was known as our family historian, who remembered her family and friends with cards and phone calls for their birthdays, anniversaries, and Christmas.  Upon her retirement from Huffy Bicycle Manufacturing in Celina, OH, she liked to join friends and family on chartered tour bus trips, including her favorites to Holmes County in Ohio and Branson, MO.

She is survived by her son, Aaron Gregory Richeson of Spencerville, and two daughters, Karen Leigh Richeson (married to Kevin Lee) of Powell, OH and Laura Susan Richeson of Spencerville.  Her 14 grandchildren include:  Jennifer S. Richeson of Hilliard, OH; Kevin G. (Rachael) Richeson of Spencerville; Daniel L. (Vicki) Myers of Bonney Lake, WA; Melissa S. Richeson of Grove City, OH; Geddy L. (Natasha) Sherer of Spencerville;  Kristopher R. Dull of Interlochen, MI; Kymm L. (Ryan) Todd of Hilliard, OH; Kevin P. (Megan) Dull of Powell, OH; Dylan J. Sherer of Spencerville; Josiah 'Joe' (Shanna) Myers of Spencerville; Kenley A. (Carolyn) Dull of Powell, OH; Elisabet 'Libby' (Jamisson) Hiffner of Edgewater, FL; Courtney L. (Mike) Glossett of Spencerville; and Delilah 'Lily' Myers of Spencerville. Surviving great grandchildren number 23, and there are 3 great-great grandsons.

She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Gary & Vergie Truesdale of Spencerville. Two Aunts, Pat Place of Buckland, OH and Bernice Place of Creswell, NC, many nephews, nieces, cousins, and her former son-in-law, Kenneth L. Dull of Bronson, MI.

Preceding her in death was her daughter, Lisa A. Myers; an infant grandson; a great granddaughter, Payton Moore; son-in-law, Brent Myers; daughter-in-law, Debra (Boyer) Richeson; and former son-in-law, James Sherer.

Garna was an active and much loved member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Spencerville, where her funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 7 at 11 am with burial in Spencerville Cemetery immediately afterward.  Visitation will be from 10 am -11 am in the Church. Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville is caring for Garna and her family.

Special thanks is extended to Rev. Steve Blum, Sr. Mary Edward, and the parishioners of St Patrick's Church, who helped make mom's funeral special for her. The family would additionally like to extend their gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and staffs at Lima Memorial Hospital and Joint Township District Memorial Hospital for the kind care they provided our beloved mom, grandma, & sister.
