Gayla S. Metzger of Spencerville, age 65, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023.

Gayla was born on October 26th, 1957, and was a lifelong resident of Spencerville. She worked and retired from Spencerville Schools after over thirty years of dedicated service.

She had many talents and hobbies.  She was an avid gardener, seamstress, crafter, rescuer of dogs and cats, and loved to work out.  Over the years she had created a unique and tranquil space with many varieties of flowers for her and her dogs and cats to enjoy. Her focus, however, was always her family.  She loved her family with all her heart.  She loved hosting the holidays and Summerfest activities for her children and grandchildren. She was passionate about her grandchildren and finding unique and fun events for them to do together.

Gayla is survived by her two children, Joseph K. (Michelle) Metzger and Rachel (Jerrod) Smith both of Spencerville; two grandchildren, Chase Smith and Lenna Smith; one brother, Roger (Jackie) Henderson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard M. Henderson and Lucille F. (Neer) Leffel; and one sister and brother-in-law, Teresa (Robert) Dillhoff.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Deep Cut Historical Park at 10:30 AM on June 3, 2023. In honor of Gayla, memorial donations may be made to Debs Dogs at 1560 Wonderlick Rd., Lima, OH 45805
