Obituary

It is with deep sadness that the family of Maxine McMichael, 103, of Spencerville announces her peaceful passing on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Roselawn Manor in Spencerville, OH. She was reunited with Carl, her beloved husband of 61 years.

She was born on July 20, 1921, in Hardin County to the late Carl and Anna Leota (Austin) Ford. On December 23, 1942, she married Carl F. McMichael who preceded her in death on October 1, 2004.

Maxine is survived by a daughter, Pamela (Doug) Graham of Wapakoneta; two sons, Brian (Georgia) McMichael of Spencerville and Dr. Thomas (Erin) McMichael of Clarksville, Maryland; seven grandchildren, Susan (Robert) Allen, Andrew (Julie) Graham, Patrick McMichael, Joel (Angel) McMichael, Ryan McMichael, Colleen (Ben) McMichael, and John (Adriana) McMichael; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Virginia Fleece and Carol Newey.

Maxine was a 1939 graduate of Roundhead High School and a 1942 graduate of Lima Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She retired as an RN from Lima Memorial Hospital.

She was a member of the Spencerville United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, served on the church board, and was active in Woman's Fellowship. She was especially proud of her contributions to Seamsters 102, a church sewing group that creates quilts for veterans in hospice. She was a member of the Mothers Study Club OCCL, the Excelsior Club, VFW Post #6772 Auxiliary, and the Spencerville Historical Society.

She and her husband enjoyed spending 22 winters in Bonita Springs, Florida. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, reading, and baking pies and cookies. She cherished the time she shared with her family. She was such a wonderful mom and an exceptional lady.

The family thanks all the staff members at Roselawn Manor and St. Rita's Hospice for their compassionate care of our mother.
