Mendon; Harold Wayne McCune, 92. Born October 17, 1929 / Died March 25, 2022. Harold left his earthly body and entered eternity while surrounded by his family. He was the son of George L. McCune and Charlotte M. Morris McCune, both preceded him, he also had a brother Robert E. McCune and a sister, Dorothy McCune Shelby, who preceded him.
He met and married the love of his life, Emily Jean Shimp. They were married on June 21, 1951 while he was serving in the U.S. Army at Ft. Campbell, KY. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, they returned to the St. Mary's area to raise their family and be closer to both their families. Jean preceded him in death August 20, 2011. They were married over 60 years.
He is survived by his children; Nancy (Darrell) Hartung of Madison, IN., Cathy (Elvin) Williams of Rockford and Neal (Maria (d) ) McCune of Mendon. He has 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Harold was a graduate of Shawnee High School, Lima, Ohio, where he played football. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and worked in several area businesses. He worked with his father, who owned Mack's Marine in St. Mary's. He retired from Parker Hannifin. He also was a retired farmer and avid angler and golfer. Harold greatly enjoyed working his farm and being outdoors. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in St. Mary's.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was eager to watch his grandchildren and great grandchildren play their sports. Harold closely followed his chosen sports teams-Ohio State University, Cleveland Browns and the Cincinnati Reds.
Honoring his final wishes, he wanted no public viewing or funeral services. There will be a private family graveside service in the Kossuth Cemetery with Pastor Rhonda Hainer officiating, followed by Military rites by the Army Honor Guard and the Spencerville Veterans.
His family will hold a Celebration of his life later in the summer.
Preferred memorials may be made to Grande Lake Health-Hospice or to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, both of St. Mary's.
