HERMAN CARNES
WAPAKONETA — Herman K. Carnes, 53, of Wapakoneta and formerly of Elida, died at 1:30 PM Friday November 13, 2015 in Saint Rita's Medical Center, following a short illness.
He was born January 18, 1962 in Lima, a son of John H. and Mildred F. Tucker Rust Carnes, who are deceased. On October 21, 1989 he married Stephanie A. Daley, who survives, along with two daughters; Savannah A. Carnes of Columbus and Michaela E. Carnes of Wapakoneta and three siblings; Edward (Marife) Carnes of Cincinnati; Judy (Michael) Deeter of Troy and Thomas (Bev) Rust of Columbus, Indiana. Their infant daughter Jacqueline Carnes preceded in death on April 3, 1991.
Herman was a graduate of the Elida High School and went on to serve in the US Air Force during the Desert Storm War as a crew chief for the A-7 and F-16 fighter jets. He retired after 21 years service in the Air National Guard. He had worked 23 years at Melcor Company in Lima as a machinist prior to the company closing. He later worked at the K-Mart in St. Marys.
He was a member of the VFW Post 8445 in Wapakoneta where he was presently serving as Quartermaster Adjutant the last four years. He loved big and small trains and air planes and could explain all the workings of a jet engine.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with Rev. Justin McCall officiating. Burial will follow in the Veterans section of the Spencerville Cemetery near his father, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta Veterans.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2/4 and 6/8 PM at the funeral home in Spencerville.
