Janet E.
Wolford
December 24, 1938 – February 26, 2023
Janet Eileen Wolford, 84, of Spencerville passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.
Janet was born on December 24, 1938 at St. Marys to the late Ernest and Alvina E. (Meyer) Wiswasser. She graduated from Spencerville High School in 1956. On April 26, 1959, she was united in marriage to the late Dwain L. Wolford. They made their home in the Spencerville area where they farmed and raised their children. Janet would be helping out in the field or hauling grain, while raising her three children. Once the kids were old enough to drive the tractor and take more of a helping role with the farm, she took over making meals and delivering lunch pails. Janet was always there to help wherever she was needed.
To Janet, family meant everything. Family reunions were an important part of her life, seeing all the aunts, uncles, and cousins. She loved family vacations to the lake in Coldwater, MI from the time she was a small child with her parents to eventually taking her own children. One of the many things Janet was proud of was sewing the original Spencerville School's flag that hung at Jennings School that her son Jerry helped design.
Janet is survived by her three children, Jerrold L. (Marcia) Wolford of Spencerville; Mikel Wolford of Spencerville; and Joine (Dan) Rumsey of Coldwater, MI; two grandchildren, Adam (Carrie) Mengerink of Newport Richie, FL and Nicholas Wolford of Spencerville; and one sister, Chery Sawmiller. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dwain, brother-in-law, Jerry Sawmiller and a half-brother, Billy Wiswasser.
There will be a visitation from 11-2 p.m. followed by her funeral at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with pastor Andrew J. Atkins officiating the service. Burial will take place following the service at Wright Cemetery.
