Jeffrey Lynn Dawson, 64, formerly of Spencerville, passed away Saturday morning, July 15, 2023 at University Medical Center in Parma, OH.
Jeff was born on March 25, 1959, in Lima, to the late Donald C. Jr. and Joy M. (McConnell) Dawson. He grew up outside of Spencerville and graduated from Spencerville High School in 1977. After high school, he started college at the University of Dayton, then to Clarks State University and finishing at Rhodes State University acquiring his associate degree. In 1985, Jeff took a job in Texas where he worked and resided until medical complications brought him back to Ohio in 2015.
In his earlier years, Jeff got very involved in cycling. He rode his bike to work and just about everywhere he wanted to go. He also enjoyed white water rafting, especially the many rafting trips with his cousin John. Jeff was a sports enthusiast with a vast knowledge of anything that had to do with the sport he was talking about. Not only did he have sports knowledge, but all around a very intelligent man that seemed to absorb and retain anything that he learned.
Jeffrey is survived by his brother, Gregory L. (Sheri) Dawson of Spencerville; two nephews, Carlisle R. Gauvin of Keene, NH and Mathew C. (Mariah) Dawson of New Bremen; one niece, Danielle (CJ) Mauro of Shirley, MA; one great nephew, Declan Mauro; one great niece, Alexis R. Dawson; and several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Donald C. Sr. & Lucille (Smith) Dawson and John Sr. & Helen (Bricker) McConnell; his parents, Donald C. Jr. & Joy M. (McConnell) Dawson; and two sisters, Marlene B. Dawson and Teresa A. Gauvin.
There will be a private family graveside service at Allentown Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his family. A Celebration of Life service for Jeffrey Lynn Dawson will be 2 p.m. Sunday, September 24 th, held at the Herman Woods Johnny Appleseed Park West Building, 485 North Wapak Road near State Route 81, West of Allentown. Jeffrey passed away July 15, 2023 at Parma University Medical Center following an extended illness. His burial was July 20 th in Allentown Cemetery. Family and friends may gather after 1 p.m. and after the services by Pastor Brian Harruff.
