JOHN BURNETT
SPENCERVILLE — John W. Burnett, 79, died at 2:20 a.m. Feb. 15, 2015, at Lima Manor, where he had resided the last two months.
He was born Jan. 9, 1936, in Toledo to Wella Mosier "Bill" and Daisy Elizabeth Stoneroad Burnett, who preceded him in death. On March 20, 1963, he married Mary S. VanPelt, who survives.
Mr. Burnett was a 1955 graduate of Spencerville High School and then the Toledo Barber College. He had operated the Salex Barber Shop in Dayton for 20 years and the Spencerville Barber Shop for 24 years. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve for eight years. He had been a member of Tawasi Club, Dayton, and the I.O.O.F. Lodge 311 and Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 306, both of Spencerville. He was a family man and enjoyed mowing and snowblowing. He really enjoyed talking with his barbering clients.
Survivors also include two sons, John W. Burnett Jr., of Dayton, and Clayton A. Burnett, of Sidney; a son-in-law, Steven Stacy, of Laurel, Maryland; six grandchildren, Holly Rieger, of Spencerville, Katurah Steil, of Pontiac, Michigan, Alex Burnett, of California, Emma Burnett, of California, Faith Burnett, of California, and Matthew Burnett, of California; and a brother, Ralph D. Burnett, of South Lebanon.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie Lynn Stacy; and a sister, Martha Coburn.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. The Rev. Andrew J. Adkins will officiate. Burial will be in Wright Cemetery near Converse.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
