Obituary

Spencerville;     John "Chuck" Charles Dillon, 75, of Spencerville, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2024 at Lima Memorial Health Systems in Lima.

John was born on November 15, 1948 in Lima to the late Thomas E. and Evelyn (Hartman) Dillon. He grew up near Spencerville and graduated from Spencerville High School 1967. After graduating, Chuck was drafted into the United States Army and served with the Black Panther Infantry in Vietnam. During his time in the service, he was awarded several medals of valor. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Debra Staples, on October 24, 1970 and together they raised two children. Chuck attended OSU Lima for a year and a half when he received his promotion as manager of the maintenance department at the Ford Motor Company where he was employed for 25 years.

Chuck was a very talented musician. As a teenager, he played with multiple bands and his specialty was the guitar and piano. When his kids were younger, he was very active with them coaching softball, baseball, and was an Allen County Junior Horseman 4-H Counselor. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 53 years, Debra; two children, Candice (Michael Boisvert) Dillon of Pandora and Matthew (Kelcey) Dillon of Plainwell, MI; seven grandchildren, Emily Dillon, Katherine Boisvert, Charlotte Boisvert, Michaela Boisvert, Jensen Boisvert, Shaelyn Dillon, and Piper Dillon; two great grandchildren, Vincent Dillon and Alora Stermer; one brother, Roger (Teresa) Dillon of Indian Lake; one sister-in-law, Paula Dillon. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David Dillon.

There will be a visitation from 10:00-12:00 p.m. followed by his funeral service at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with Pastor Tom Cooper officiating. Burial will take place following the service at Spencerville Cemetery with military honors from the Spencerville area veterans and the Army Military Funeral Honors. Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville is caring for John and his family. In honor of Chuck, preferred memorials may be given to Tunnel to Towers or the Equestrian Therapy Program near Criderville.
