Obituary

John Andrew Hakey, 61, of Spencerville, passed away at his home at 5:40 a.m. on Monday, February 20, 2023.

John was born on May 15, 1962 in Indiana to the late Robert A. and Twylia Fay (Anderson) Hakey. Growing up, John attended school through the 9 th grade before deciding to join the carnival. Life brought him to Spencerville, where he made his home and worked at Flexible Foam for 18 years. On June 24, 2019, John was united in marriage to Lisa Mann.

One of John's passions was woodworking, specifically making rocking chairs from reclaimed wood. He enjoyed his trips to the American Legion in Spencerville to visit and spend time with his friends. When he got together with his friends, they would often play cards or shake dice. Most of all, John loved spending time with his family and grandkids.

John is survived by his wife Lisa; two children, John (Debbi) Smith, Brimfield, IN and Cristy Carlson, Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren, Destinee (Nathan Leamon) Smith, Jackson Smith, and Skyler Moore; two step-children, Nicole Smith, Spencerville and Damian Smith, Indiana; six step-grandchildren, Shayna Russel, Brooke Russel, Brodie Russel, Sawyer Stocklin, Emery Goff and Dawson Gillum; five siblings, Bonnie Crabtree, Johnson City, TN, Tina (David) Hicks, Michigan, Roger (Barb) Hakey, Kendallville, IN, Jerry (Nueva) Harden and Mark (Sara) Hakey. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Phillip Hakey, Barry Harden, and Dale Hakey.

There will be a visitation from 2:00-5:00 p.m. followed by his funeral service at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. Pastor Andrew Atkins will be officiating the service.
