John Michael Bice, 78, of Spencerville, passed away at 7:02 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at St. Rita's Medical Center Hospice.

John was born on June 28, 1946 in Lima, to the late Russell and Frances (Lokey) Bice. He graduated from Spencerville High School in 1964. Not long after high school, John went to work for the B.P. Chemical Plant in Lima for 35 years. On November 11, 1967, he was united in marriage to Paula Sawmiller who survives in Spencerville and together they had two children.

Mike lived all his life in Spencerville where he served on the Village Council for 10 years and 8 years as Mayor. He enjoyed golfing and bowling with his wife as well as riding his bike. Mike was a member of the Monticello United Brethren in Christ Church where he served on the board for many years.

John is survived by his wife Paula of 57 years; his son, Brian Bice; granddaughter, Kylie Simons, grandsons, Dylan & Evan Bice; sisters-in-law, Claudine Hawk and Roxanne Lauth; and brothers-in-law, Norris (Jeannie) Sawmiller and Michael (Laura) Sawmiller. He was preceded in death by his parents; loving daughter, Heidi Simons; son-in-law Jeff Simons; and brother-in-law, Roy Lauth.

There will be a visitation on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by his memorial service at 11:00 a.m. also at the funeral home with pastor Andrew J. Atkins officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at Spencerville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Mike to the Monticello United Brethren in Christ Church.
