Jon
Spyker
September 3, 2018
SPENCERVILLE — Jon Spyker went to Live with the Lord and the Love of his life, Maxine Spyker, on September 3, 2018. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his wife Maxine Spyker. He leaves his daughter, Tami Spyker Goudy, Son Jeffrey Spyker, grandson Chris Spyker, granddaughter Abigail Goudy, son-in-law, Donald Goudy, Jr. and daughter-in-law Debra Spyker.
He was the son Harvey and Mary Tomlinson Spyker and is preceded in death by his brother James and sister Jane Patterson.
Jon was a Lieutenant in the Air Force during the Korean War at which time he was in the intelligence division. He was in the insurance industry for over 50 years and ended his long career as an independent agent working in Okeechobee, Florida.
He loved his children and adored both of his grandchildren. He was proud of both of them. He loved to fish, golf, hunt and being with his family.
Jon loved to paint and often gave his painting to those for whom he cared.
He was born in Auglaize County and grew up on the family farm. He went to Spencerville High School, where he was on the football team and met his high school sweetheart whom he married on June 26, 1955. They started their family when their son Jeffrey and their daughter, Tami were born.
He struggled in the last years of his life with a form of muscular dystrophy (body inclusion myositis) and several heart attacks. But despite the odds against him, he fought hard to live a quality life, no matter of the circumstances
Jon founded the residence council at a local assisted living facility where he lived. He wanted to make sure others who did not have a voice in their care would have a voice through his efforts. And, he made a huge difference in their lives. He is an inspiration to all, especially his family. He is our hero for life.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Muscular Dystrophy Association in Jon Spyker's name.
Graveside services will be at 11 AM Thursday in the Spencerville Cemetery with military rites by the Air Force Honor Guard and the Spencerville Veterans following the services.
