Joseph "Joe" Owen, 72, of Spencerville, passed away at 10:03 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at Mercy Health – St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
He was born September 6, 1950, in Lima, Ohio, to the late George and Margaret Owen. Joe married the love of his life, Kathy (Tenwalde) Miller on November 24, 2000, and she survives in Spencerville, Ohio.
Also surviving are his children; son Tom (Deb) Owen of Toledo, daughter Jody (Jeromy) Perry of Galena, Rhonda (Brad Gasser) Stroh of Delphos, Robin (Mike) Stroh of St. Mary's, Roxann (Ted) Furley of Ottoville. His grandchildren, Nicki and Steve Owen of Toledo, Seirra and Brayden Perry of Galena, Dakota, Taylor, and Hunter Stroh of Delphos, Logan (Katelyn) Miller of St Mary's, Cole, Isabelle, and Chase Furley of Ottoville, Emily (Trevor McElroy) and Hannah Stroh of Michigan and two great grandchildren, Rhea and Rory. After the death of Joe's parents, Joy Arthur and the late Tom Arthur continued to raise him. His cousins that became his siblings are Pat Reier of Spencerville, Thomas E. Arthur, Jr. of Cridersville, Jean (Steve) Hanna of Columbus and Leslie Link of Bronson, FL. Two of those cousins preceded him in death, Julie Clark in 2015 and Rick (Barb) Arthur in 2022. Joe had 9 sisters-in-law and 3 brothers-in-law.
Joe was a 1969 graduate of Spencerville High School, Hobart School of Welding, and Reppert School of Auctioneering. Joe's greatest love was his family, and he especially cherished his grandchildren and watching them playing sports. He loved antique John Deere tractors, enjoyed farming, competition plowing and going to Tractor Pulls. Auctioneering was also a great passion of Joe's. Joe was an active member of Buckeye Farm Antiques, Ohio Plowman Organization, USAPO, and the Ohio Two Cylinder Club. Joe retired from General Dynamics in 2015.
There will be a visitation from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. with an hour of visitation prior to the service on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at St. John the Baptist Church in Landeck. Burial will take place following the service at St. Mary's Cemetery in Ottoville. Please wear your favorite John Deere attire or something green and yellow to show your love to Joe and his family!
