Spencerville;        Karen Sue "Katie" Helstad, 70, of Spencerville, passed away on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.

Karen was born on June 15, 1953 in Uniopolis, OH to the late Donald Edward and Ila Marguerite (Dulebohn) Frazier. She grew up around Wapakoneta and graduated from Wapakoneta High School. During her earlier working years, she worked and co-owned My Place restaurant before going to work at McDonalds Industrial Products. Walking with a  friend, she passed Rodney Helstad, and asked her friend to get his number. It wasn't too long after that, Katie and Rod were united in marriage on March 25, 1995.

Katie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Spencerville. She enjoyed going to garage sales, horseback riding, and was a lover of all animals. Being very outgoing and sociable, she was someone who had never met a stranger. Katie had a deep passion for fishing and loved fishing for bass on the Maumee River. Most of all she loved her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Karen is survived by her husband of 28 years, Rod Helstad of Spencerville; two children, Christopher James (Jennifer) Ingledue of Florida and Michael Dean (Laura) Ingledue of Columbus, OH; three grandchildren, Dante Ingledue of Columbus and David & Michael Ingledue of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents and step mother, Jamie (Gass) Frazier.

There will be a Celebration of Life gathering from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2023 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville is caring for Katie and her family.

In leu of flowers, preferred memorials may be given to the family.
