Obituary

SPENCERVILLE — Kenneth W. Sawmiller, 94, of rural Spencerville, passed away at 7:14 PM Tuesday, April 3, 2018 in the Roselawn Manor after a brief illness. He was born October 26, 1923 in his present home in Jennings Twp., Van Wert County, a son of the late Arthur and Mildred Rempfer Sawmiller. He married Mary Lee Hunsaker on December 21, 1946 and she died May 10, 2010.

Surviving are his daughter Patty (Ted) Baldwin of Van Wert and his daughter-in-law; Cherylee Sawmiller of Spencerville. His son Jerry passed away August 9, 2016.

Also surviving are 4 granddaughters; Christine Sawmiller of Columbus; Laurie (Brian) Hedge of Celina; Jennifer (Kevin) Huber and Jamie (Stephen) Gambill, both of Spenceville; 5 great grandsons; Joshua (Megan) Hedge of St, Marys; Zachary (Connie Ly) Hedge of Celina; Justin (Shay Staugler) Hedge of Celina; Austin Gambill of Spencerville and Wyatt Gambill of Spencerville; 2 great granddaughters; Chelsie (Synay Ly) Hedge of Celina and Peighton Gambill of Spencerville; a great great grandson; Kaysin Hedge and 2 great great granddaughters; Enzie Hedge and Iris Hedge; and his sister; Luella Grothouse of Delphos.

Preceding him in death are his 3 brothers; Paul, Bill and Bobby Sawmiller and his sister-in-law; Jean Sawmiller.

Kenny was a 1941 graduate of Spencerville High School and went on to serve in the Army in WW II in the Pacific Theater. He was a life long farmer with his family and retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 37 years service there.

He was a member of the Monticello United Brethren in Christ Church and had been a member of the American Legion and VFW . He enjoyed fishing and spending the winters in Florida.

Funeral services will be 3:30 PM Sunday in the Monticello Church with Pastor Andrew J. Atkins officiating. Military rites will be conducted following the services by the Spencerville Veterans and the Army Honor Guard. Burial will be at a later date in the New Salem Cemetery, South of Monticello.

The family will receive friends from 2/4 and 6/8 PM Saturday at the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville and after 2:30 PM Sunday at the church.
