Obituary

LARRY KURTZ SPENCERVILLE — Larry E. Kurtz, 82, died at 2:05 a.m. Feb. 11, 2014, at Roselawn Manor Nursing Home, Spencerville. He was born Oct. 23, 1931, in Lima to Harry E. and Hazel V. Meeker Kurtz, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 27, 1951, he married Ruth Ilene Barnett, who survives. Mr. Kurtz was a 1949 graduate of Delphos Jefferson High School. He had been a welder and worked in maintenance at Freuhauf Manufacturing Co., Delphos, for 30 years, until it closed. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved fishing, mainly at Indian Lake, the outdoors, and helping neighbors mow their yards. He was an avid walker. He had been active with his citizen band radio, using the handle "Doll Fly," and was a ham radio operator, talking to people all over the world. Survivors also include four daughters, Mary (Garland "Gar") Williams, of Botkins, Jean (Greg Evans) Williams, of Lima, Carol Brincefield, of Spencerville, and Ellen (Brian) Franklin, of Lima; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; three half sisters, Sandra Oakman, of Maumee, and Susan Keller and Cheryl Point, both of Lima; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Kurtz, of Lima. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gene "Red" Kurtz. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville. The Rev. Jim Flatcher will officiate. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Spencerville EMS.
