Obituary

Leonard Nelson Kill, 100, 1405 Baker Wright Road, Spencerville, died April 3, 2024, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.

​            He was born on January 28, 1924, at home, a son of Harold Matthew and Bernice Winnonia (Louth) Kill. On October 6, 1951, he married Gladys Louise Lawyer at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wapakoneta. She survives at their home.

Mr. Kill is survived by his children: Lawrence Alan (Kelly) Kill of St. Marys; Karen Marie (Owen) Pugh of Convoy; Mary Denise (Clem) Gallaspie of Kossuth; Stephen Mark (Tracy) Kill of Pickerington, Ohio; Evonne Renee (William) Kish of Dover, NH; and Dr. Angela Rose Kill (Robert Rieffenberger) of Denver, CO; 11 grandchildren, Kristopher Chad (Emily) Gallaspie, Phillip Benjamin (Jennifer) Kill, Chad Owen (Sara) Pugh, Dustin Lee (Lacy) Gallaspie, Shonda Marie (Ben) Marley, Renee Suzanne (Craig) Wachauf, Russell Nelson (Emily) Kill, Zachary Alan Kill, Justin Alexander (Sarah) Kill, Ian Nathanial (Katie) Kish and Elliott Robinson (Krista) Kish; and eighteen great-grandchildren.He is also survived by one brother, Carl Joseph Kill; and two sisters-in-law Judy Kay (Bowers) Kill and Rosemary (Rothe) Kill. He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Agnes (Kill) Little; and four brothers, Thomas Eugene Kill, James W. Kill, Bernard Paul Kill, and Lester Alfred Kill, sister-in-law Barbara Faye (Hoch) Kill and many nieces and nephews.

​            He attended Converse, a one-room school, and Spencerville and Jennings schools. He and his wife met at the Lima Dixie Roller Rink, and he continued that activity until well into his '80s. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in 1985 following 43 years of employment at the St. Marys facility. He was also active in farming until late in his life.

​            Mr. Kill enjoyed being outdoors, working in the garden, fields, and yard. He enjoyed dancing and roller skating, having been active in those activities until late in his life. He was an advisor for the Kossuth Gleaners 4-H Club and was a member of the Springbrook Gardens Dance Club and the Wapakoneta Fraternal Order of the Eagles No. 689; and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Spencerville.

There will be a visitation from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Spencerville with Father Dennis Walsh officiating. Burial will take place following the service at Kossuth Cemetery. Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville is caring for Leonard and his family.
