Spencerville; Lyle Mezger 73, from Spencerville, passed away on Friday morning March 22, 2024 peacefully at Roselawn Manor. He was born in Lima on October 24, 1950, to the late Vernon and LaDonna "Brownie" Metzger.
Lyle is survived by sisters, Cheryl (late Nicholas) George of Lima and Deb Laudick (Late Bill Harman) of Spencerville. He is also survived by 4 nieces Angela (Tim) Wenger, Paula Russell, Lorrie George (James Harris), Stacy Harman-Friesner (Kevin Campbell), and nephews Rusty (Lindsey) George and Bill (Brein Pyfrin) Harman. He was blessed with many great nieces and nephews too.
Lyle was a 1969 graduate of Spencerville High School. He grew up helping his father on the farm. Lyle's pride and joy was Lyn Lee Lanes where he spent most of his life. The bowling community was a large part of Lyle's family. He was a member of the Spencerville United Church of Christ and had become a close friend of Pastor Scott.
Lyle enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino, watching races at Limaland and car rides in the country. He was an avid supporter of the Spencerville Bearcats and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Lyle was honored to be the 2019 Grand Marshall for the Spencerville Summerfest parade.
There will be a visitation from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. Visitation will continue from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with his funeral service starting at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, also at the funeral home in Spencerville with Pastor Scott Johnson officiating. The burial will take place following the service at Spencerville Cemetery. Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville is caring for Lyle and his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Lyle Metzger to: Spencerville United Church of Christ or The Spencerville Athletic Department. Please feel free to dress casually for the visitation/funeral in your Ohio State attire or old bowling shirts.
