Marcella D. "Sally" Meier, 101, died at 6 a.m. Oct. 2, 2013, at Roselawn Manor Nursing Home, Spencerville.
She was born Dec. 5, 1911, in Van Wert County to Apollos and Ida Detrick Hoover. On Oct. 2, 1937, she married Francis Joseph Meier, who died Nov. 16, 1966.
Mrs. Meier was a homemaker. She was a member of Spencerville First Baptist Church, where she had been active through the years. She had been a wonderful caregiver to many of her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her friends and neighbors, going to Kewpee and Lee's Chicken, and loved her cats on the farm and bingo at Roselawn Manor. She drove her car until she was 97 years young.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, her special friends and her Roselawn Manor family.
She was preceded in death by 13 siblings, Clara Pickering, Oliver, Hazel, Walter, Howard and Ben Hoover, Cleo Ickes, Martha Countryman, and John, Lawrence, Margaret, Roy and Frances "Sissie" Hoover.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville. Pastor Jim Fletcher will officiate. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or the activities fund at Roselawn Manor Nursing Home.
