Obituary

Spencerville;       Mary L. McCray, 95, of Spencerville, Ohio, died September 24, 2023 at Roselawn Manor. Mary was born on March 8, 1928 in Van Wert, Ohio, a daughter of Forrest and Ethel Gribler. She is survived by four children; Susan (Todd) Spicer, LuAnn (Mark) Youngpeter, David (Lynn) McCray, and Ronald (Jill) McCray; six grandchildren, LeAndra Spicer, Laura (Andrew) Burbacher, Janelle Schroeder, Jeffery Youngpeter, Katie McCray, and Shaylin McCray; and five great grandchildren; Jolene, Wyatt, Charlise, Nolan, and Ellie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five siblings; LaDoyt Gribler, Graydon Gribler, Donald Gribler, Forrest Gribler, and Margaret Mack; one granddaughter and one great granddaughter.

She was also preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Thomas McCray, in 2018. Tom and Mary enjoyed traveling, spending time at the lake, relaxing in the Florida Panhandle, and visiting with family and friends. Mary worked with Tom as a bookkeeper for the McCray Garage and was also employed at Siferd Hosselman.

Mary was a very devoted servant, dedicating her life to serving God and helping others. She was a Sunday school teacher, a Boy Scout leader, a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and Methodist Women, and coordinator of the food pantry, bloodmobile, and funeral dinners. For her efforts, Mary was chosen as Citizen of the Year. Even in death, Mary continues to serve by donating her body to Wright State University for medical research.

Mary will be remembered for her appreciation of the small things in life: a beautiful sky, a blooming flower, bird watching, long walks, Petoskey stone hunting, and listening to the ocean waves. She was a kind, loving, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will always be the Sunshine When Skies Are Grey.

A celebration of life is scheduled for October 22, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Spencerville, Ohio. Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband at Spencerville Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Spencerville Library and Sunday school services at Trinity United Methodist Church. Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville is caring for the McCray family.
