Obituary

Spencerville;  Mary Ellen Merriman, 85  of Spencerville, passed away at 11:20 AM Saturday, May 22, 2021 in the Roselawn Manor in Spencerville with her family at her side.

She was born September 22, 1935  in Putnam County, a daughter of the late Howard and Gladys  Hammond. On February 7, 1964 she married Nelson LeRoy Merriman, who passed away June 6. 2000.

Surviving are her sons; Scott (Beth) Merriman of Fredericksburg, VA. and Todd (Farrell) Merriman of St. Marys, her 6 grandchildren; Stevie Merriman, Caroline Merriman, Daniel Merriman, David (Lauren) Merriman, Marcus (Katie Kupfer)  Merriman and Katie Merriman (Wyatt) Krouskop, her great granddaughter Amelia Merriman and her siblings; Dennis Hammond, Nancy Conine, Barbara Hickey and Terry Hammond and her daughter-in-law Marlea Merriman of Florida.

Preceding her in death is her son Steven Merriman and her brothers Robert and Richard Hammond.

Mary was a 1953 graduate of Leipsic High School and earned her LPN degree at Lima Tech and later earned her RN degree at Rhodes State College.

She was a member of the Bethlehem Christian Union Church and a lifetime nurse and caregiver spanning decades serving patients at St. Rita's, Roselawn and various home healthcare agencies. She was also a lifetime dog lover, having had many dogs and a few cats over the years.

Mary and her late husband Nelson enjoyed creating crafts together and traveling to various craft shows to display their items. She loved her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren and also loved Bearcat and Ohio State football, listening to the games on the radio when she couldn't be there in person. She also enjoyed time spent at Huggy Bear Campground, riding around in her golf cart with her dog by her side and playing Bingo.  She was also known as a pretty good card player to grandkids who spent many hours playing rummy with her while camping.

Funeral services will be 4 PM Tuesday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with Pastor Allan Brown officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Maplewood Cemetery, East of Spencerville.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Roselawn Manor Activities Fund in care of the funeral home.
