SPENCERVILLE -- Melvina M. Shaffer, 91, of Spencerville, died 11:45 a.m., Tues. March 15, 2022, at Roselawn Manor, Spencerville. She was born Jan. 31, 1931, in Hammond, IN, the daughter of the late Cloy C. & Marie (Binkley) Kerr. On June 21, 1947, she married David P. Shaffer, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 2005.
Survivors include, 3 children, Nathan D. (Tiz) Shaffer, Spencerville, Irene M. (Barry) Oakman, Spencerville, Robbin L. (Rose) Shaffer, Shalimar, FL; a daughter-in-law, Pauline Shaffer; grandchildren, April Riley (Rick Hardesty), Brian (Deb-dec) Oakman, Misty (Tim) Wilson, Ben (Whitney) Shaffer, Mike (Teresa) Shaffer, Teresa Arthur, and Dustin Shaffer; great grandchildren, Cole, Calvin, Caden Wilson; Addison, Elliana, Sophia Shaffer; Austin, Noah Riley; Jordyn, Caitlyn Oakman; Jessica Shaffer; Devon, Cameron Shaffer; Alex, Brandon Shaffer; and Blake, Isabell Shaffer.
She was preceded in death by a son, Rocky A. Shaffer, a grandson, Jeffery Shaffer, and her siblings, Norma Blystone, Leroy Kerr, Eugene Kerr, and Eleanor Woolf.
Melvina was a homemaker, and a member of the Bowersock Bros, V.F.W. Post #6772, Ladies Auxiliary. She could crochet a lap robe in a day and always loved to donate them to the Spencerville VFW Clown Unit to be given to the VA Hospital, Dayton. Anyone she knew or met was blessed with a throw. Melvina always loved camping, casino trips, and playing bingo with her husband, David. In later years, she enjoyed music time at Roselawn Manor, and always knew the exact time and day to play bingo.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Fri. March 18, 2022, at the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville, with Pastor Scott Johnson officiating. Burial is to follow in the Spencerville Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m., Thurs. and 1 hr. prior to service, Fri., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions maybe directed to the Spencerville United Church of Christ Quilting Fund for Veterans in Hospice.
