MICHAEL KAHLE
SPENCERVILLE — Michael J. "Mike" Kahle, 78, of rural Spencerville, passed away peacefully at 2:13 PM Saturday, June 24, 2017 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He fought a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born June 22, 1939 in Lima, the son of Joseph and Annette Schuerman Kahle, who are deceased. On July 8, 1961 he married the love of his life, Mary Hempfling Kahle, who survives. They were married nearly 56 years.
Also surviving are 7 children; David (Martha) Kahle of Lima; Patrick (Bronna) Kahle of Adrian, MI.; Joseph (Kathy) Kahle and Tony (Amy) Kahle, both of Spencerville; Maria (Chris) Waymire of Yellow Springs, OH.; Angie (Terry) Barchanowicz of Avon Lake, OH.; and Tim (Amy) Kahle of Spencerville; 16 grandchildren; Michael, Elizabeth and Anna Kahle; Ben (Savannah) Kahle; Rebekah Kahle; Lauren (Aaron) Link; Rachael Kahle; Jenna & Chandler Kahle; Tim, Drew & Audrey Waymire; Connor, Claire & Mary Kate Barchanowicz and Landon Kahle and one great grandchild; Konnor Link. He is also survived by his sister Cynthia(Paul) Schlagbaum of Centennial, CO. ; and his in-laws; Sister Michaelyn of Toledo; Michael Hempfling of Delphos; Ann Wanamaker of Xenia; Tom (Joann) Hempfling of Delphos; Agnes (Tom) Wheeler of Dayton and Helen (Arnie) Fischer of Delphos. Preceding in death was their infant son, Ted Michael Kahle and brother-in-law, Roger Wanamaker.
Mike graduated from Ft. Jennings High School in 1957. He worked at Ford Motor Lima Engine plant for 9 years before farming full time. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and served on the parish council and had served on the Spencerville School Board. Mike was an active member of the National Farmers Organization and the Delphos Knights of Columbus. He was a part of the American Agriculture Movement in Washington, D.C. in January 1979. He farmed for 55 years, which was his true passion, and took much pride in building his farm and family.
Mike thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. He enjoyed his winters in North Ft. Myers, FL. especially playing his daily shuffleboard games. He never met a stranger. His fun loving personality will be missed by many.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Wednesday at St. Patrick Church, with Father Dennis Walsh officiating. Burial will follow in Spencerville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 PM Monday and 2 until 8 PM Tuesday at the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, where the Knights of Columbus will conduct services at 7:45 PM Monday and a Parish prayer service will be held at 7:45 PM Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, Allen County Right to Life or to Delphos Community Health Partners Home Hospice.
