Obituary

MILDRED CARNES ALLENTOWN — Mildred F. Tucker Rust Carnes, 90, died at 5:50 a.m. Oct. 23, 2013, at Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home, Wapakoneta. She was born April 14, 1923, in Elida to Henry Edgar and Lucy Frances Stemen Tucker, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 24, 1946, she married M. Devon Rust, who died June 27, 1950. On April 12, 1961, she married John H. Carnes, who died Aug. 19, 1989. Mrs. Carnes attended Allentown United Methodist Church and Bethel Christian Union Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, baking, reading and traveling. She was a 1941 graduate of Elida High School. She worked at DWG Cigar Factory and then as a stenographer at Westinghouse Electric Corp. until 1961. Survivors include four children, Thomas J. (Bev) Rust, of Columbus, Ind., Judy Ann (Mike) Deeter, of Tipp City, Herman K. (Stephanie) Carnes, of Wapakoneta, and Edward H. (Marife) Carnes, of Fort Drum, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Savannah Carnes, of Columbus, Ohio, Michaela Carnes, of Wapakoneta, Stephanie (Brian) Rawlings, of Columbus, Ind., Matt (Tracie) Helmbrecht, of Fishers, Ind., and Trisha Galon Carnes, of Fort Drum, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren, Claire and Nathan Rawlings, of Columbus, Ind.; a sister, Luella Stutzman, of Batavia, Ill.; a brother-in-law, Orvie Stirn, of Cridersville; and a sister-in-law, Yvonne Tucker, of Lima. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Delbert Huey; an infant son; an infant granddaughter, Jacqueline Carnes; three brothers, Harold, Gerald and Dale Tucker; a sister, Dorothy Stirn; and a sister-in-law, Martha Tucker. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville. The Rev. Dennis Hunter will officiate. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Face-to-Face Ministries, St. Rita's Hospice or to the donor's choice.
