NORMA SHAFFER
SPENCERVILLE — Norma E. Shaffer, 84, died at 11:30 p.m. March 21, 2016, surrounded by her family.
She was born March 28, 1921, in Allen County to Arby and Leta McDonel Moorman, who preceded her in death. On March 3, 1942, she married Lavern D. Shaffer, who survives.
Mrs. Shaffer was a graduate of Spencerville High School. She worked at Westinghouse during World War II. Her favorite job, however, was that of wife and mother. She was a very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church as a member of UMW, Joy Circle, Choir, first- and second-grade Sunday schoolteacher for many years and financial secretary. Additionally, she was a member of the Excelsior Club for many years. Her favorite pastime was singing and playing her ukulele.
Survivors also include three children, Doug (Teresa) Shaffer, of Flushing, Michigan, Diane (Todd) Spahr, of Indian Harbour Beach, Florida, and Sheryl (Norm) Yearsley, of Melbourne, Florida; four grandchildren, Sara (Matt) Brandenburg, Casey Spahr, Kyle (Elise) Spahr, and Leslie Spahr; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Gail Moorman; a granddaughter, Lindsey Shaffer; and a daughter-in-law, Wendy Shaffer.
Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. The Rev. David W. Howell will officiate. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
