Spencerville; Penny Ann Wilgus, 69, of Spencerville passed away at 5:46 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.
Penny was born on January 10, 1955 in Lima, OH to the late Thomas Lowell and Donna Jean (Smith) Wieter. She grew up in the Spencerville area graduating from Spencerville High School where she met the love of her life. Penny was united in marriage to the late Lewis Edward "Ed" Wilgus Jr. on January 6, 1973. She was a devoted wife and mother, who spent her early years raising their three children and taking care of the family. Once her kids grown, she attained her realtors license and worked in real estate for a number of years.
Penny really enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and fishing. She had a great fondness for country music concerts, but one her greatest joys was her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Penny is survived by her three boys, Chad Wilgus of Lima, Andrew (Angela) Wilgus of Little Rock, AR, and Josh (Jen) Wilgus of Van Wert; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and four siblings, Leon Wieter of Spencerville, Wendy (Scott) Whittington of Milan, IN, Kerri "Beanie" Wieter of Spencerville, and Twyla Nuttle of Spencerville. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lewis Edward "Ed" Wilgus Jr., and adoptive brother, Lawrence Wappelhorst.
There will be a visitation from 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. Her funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 5, 2024 also at the funeral home with Pastor Jon Spyker officiating. Burial will take place following the funeral at Spencerville Cemetery. Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville is caring for Penny and her family.
