Obituary

WAPAKONETA -- Phil Alan Gibson, 78, of rural Wapakoneta, passed away 3:27 a.m., Sat. June 4, 2022 at Lima Memorial Health System. He was born Aug. 14, 1943, in Lima, the son of the late Robert J. & Betty L. (Phillips) Gibson. On Aug. 6, 1965, he married Jeanne Boedecker, and she survives. Other survivors include, a daughter, Alison (Bryan) Dupes; son, Scott Gibson; grandchildren, Seth Davidson, Emilee (Nolan) Stromberg, and Ava Gibson; great grandchildren, Willow and Walker Stromberg; a brother, Robert L. (Judy) Gibson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Karen (Jim) Mericle. Phil was a 1962 graduate of Buckland High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 until 1968 aboard the U.S.S. Sacramento, A.O.E.-1, during the Viet Nam War. Phil retired in 2006 from the Peterson Construction Co., after 40 years of service. He attended the Kossuth Zion United Methodist Church, where he served on several committees. He was also a life member of the Wapakoneta V.F.W. Post #8445.

Phil was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed watching The Ohio State Buckeyes. He never missed a Bath High School Wild Kittens softball game and was fondly called "Gramps" by all the girls on his granddaughter Ava's team. He loved his family with all his heart.

In keeping with Phil's wishes, a private family graveside service will be held at the Kossuth Cemetery, with Pastor Allan Brown officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W. Post #8445. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kossuth-Zion United Methodist Church, through the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, 728 E. Fourth St., Spencerville, OH 45887.
