Robert F. Goodwin, 77, of Lima passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima.

Robert Franklin Goodwin was born on November 7, 1945 in Lima to the late Grover and Elsie (Close) Goodwin. He attended Lima Senior High School and graduated in 1963. After high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1963 – 1969. He later attended Marion Corrections Officer Training and became a corrections officer for the Lima Corrections Facility. He started at Lima Corrections when the facility opened in 1981 and retired when the facility closed in 2004. Bob's the only officer to start when the facility opened and remain there until its closer.

Bob really enjoyed watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and the Red Green show. What he loved most was spending time with his friends and family.

Robert is survived by his special friend, Sheila M. Friend of Lima; children, Michael G. Goodwin of Delphos, Maryann R. (Michael) Monty of Burr Oak, MI, and Melissa G. Goodwin of Lima; grandchildren, Sabrina Heftner of Bowling Green, Parker Hefner of Lima, Kaileb Hefner of Lima, Malachi Monty of Burr Oak and Dominic Monty of Burr Oak; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers James, David, John and Thomas Goodwin and grandson Landon Monty.

There will be a visitation from 1:30-2:30 P.M. with military rites by the Spencerville veterans starting at 2:30 P.M. on Friday, January 20, 2023 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. Burial will take place immediately following the military rites at the Spencerville Cemetery.

In honor of Bob, memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior foundation or the Veterans Food Pantry.
