Robert "Bob" L. French, 76, of Spencerville, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Vancrest of Delphos in Delphos.

Robert Lewis was born on December 1, 1949, in Lima, to the late Willie "Bill" Boyd and Rita Ruth (Etgen) French. He was a graduate of Spencerville High School in 1967 and enlisted in the Army in 1968 and being honorably discharged is 1970. After his time in the service, he attended The Ohio State University before graduating from the Northwestern Business College with his associate's degree. On December 25, 1975, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Myra Lou. When he married Myra, she was a package deal with her four children, and he loved them as if they were his own. Myra and Bob were pleasantly surprised when they welcomed a fifth child to their family. Bob was a plumber by trade after he returned from the service and worked one day a week as fill in mail man. He did that for a number of years before getting hired on full time and working for 37 years for the United States Postal Service.

Bob enjoyed being active through golfing, fishing and hunting. He loved watching his Steelers and Buckeyes play football as well as attending Spencerville basketball games. Bob was a trustee and a lifetime member of the Spencerville VFW Post # 6772. He did quite a bit of volunteer work with the VFW and was passionate about the many different ways they raised money and stayed involved with the community. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his five children, Cynthia Smith, Mark Smith, Marcia (Michael) Barnett, Tracy (Dawn) Rhoades and Joshua (Brooke) French, all of Lima; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and two brothers, Bill (Luella) French and Donny (Angela) French. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margie Grigsby.

There will be a visitation from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. His visitation will continue from 9:00-11:00 a.m. followed by his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026 at the funeral home with pastor Andrew J. Atkins officiating. Military honors will be provided by local area veterans and the United States Army honor guard. Burial will take place following the funeral at Hartford Cemetery. Thomas E.
