Spencerville;       Robert "Bud" Lowell Short, 72, of Spencerville passed away in his home on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

Bud was born on April 20, 1952 in Lima, OH to the late Lowell Otis "Shorty" and Ireta Verneta (Barnett) Short. He grew up in Spencerville and graduated from Spencerville High School in 1970 and attended college before joining the military. After his honorable discharge from the United States Army, Bud had a couple of jobs before starting his career at Goodyear. He was with Goodyear for 20+ years before retiring. On November 11, 1978, he was united in marriage to Brenda Elaine Oakman and together they raised two children. Brenda passed away on September 30, 2022.

Bud was a member of the Spencerville First Baptist Church. He was a humble homebody that enjoyed helping his friends and neighbors. The love he had for the Cleveland Browns was only bested by his love for his family and watching his grandkids play sports.

Bud is survived by his children, Heather F. (Greg) Grothous and Aaron R. Short both of St. Joseph, MI; three grandchildren, Kaden I. Grothous, Madelyn E. Grothous, and Grayson R. Grothous; a sister, Judy Beebe of Cary, NC; and brother-in-law, Barry (Irene) Oakman. He was preceded in death by his parents: his wife, Brenda; and brother-in-law, Lanny Oakman.

There will be a visitation from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville. Visitation will continue from 10:00-11:00 a.m. followed by his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024 also at the funeral home with pastor Jim Fletcher officiating the service.
