ROBERT OVERHOLT

GOMER — Robert E. "Bob" Overholt, 92, of Gomer and formerly of Spencerville, died at 12:45 PM Monday, June 27, 2016 at the Van Crest Care Center in Delphos, where he had resided since November 2015.

He was born January 29, 1924 in York Twp., Van Wert County, a son of Ira Von and L. Belle Ralston Overholt, who are deceased. On August 26, 1950 he married Lois R. Evans, who survives along with 2 sons; Dennis E. (Katherine Y., deceased) Overholt of Grove City, Ohio and R. Brian (Sharon K.) Overholt of Gomer; 5 grandchildren; Brady (Allison) Overholt and Kayla (Andy) Wita, both of Elida; Jaden and Riley Overholt, both of Gomer and John Michael Overholt of Grove City and a sister; Betty Boley of Van Wert.

Bob was preceded in death by a brother; Lowell (Norma) Overholt and a sister Vera Overholt and a brother-in-law; Eugene Boley.

He was a 1942 graduate of York High School and went on to serve in the Army in WW II, where he was in 5 major battles, including the "Battle of the Bulge". He retired from the Lima City Schools in 1989 where he worked in maintenance and painting. He was a member of the Elida Immanuel United Methodist Church and its "Win-A-Person" Sunday School Class and was a life member of the Bowersock Bros. VFW Post # 6772 in Spencerville.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville with Rev. Mike Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Spencerville Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 until 8 PM Tuesday and after 10 AM Wednesday at the funeral home, where military rites will be conducted following the funeral service by the Spencerville Veterans.
