St. Marys; Robert Glen "Bob" Shaner, 67, of St. Marys and formerly of Spencerville, passed away peacefully with his family at his side at 6:58 PM Wednesday, November 15, 2017 in the OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, where he was a patient for nearly two months.
He was born February 9, 1950 in Lima, a son of Arthur E. and Margaret L. Brinkman Shaner, who are deceased. On December 17, 1977 he married Beverly Irene Harruff, who survives.
Also surviving are his son; Paul E. (Amber) Shaner of Benton, KY.; a step-grandson Payton Shaner; his siblings; Rev. James(Mary) Shaner of MI.; Michael (Deb) Shaner of Lima; Rose (Kevin) Jones of St. Marys; and Margie (Gene) Gannon of Wapakoneta; his in-laws; Gary (Pat) Gallimore of St. Marys; Carol Mays of Spencerville; Richard (Shirley) Harruff of Delphos; Raymond (Nancy) Harruff of Celina; Doug (Diane) Harruff of Delphos; Vernon (Mary) Harruff of OK.; and Albert (Sally) Harruff of Wapakoneta.
Preceding him in death is his son; Glen A. Shaner in 2004 and his two sisters; Barbara (Billy) Gross and Diane (Arthur) Vannette, who died Nov. 6, 2017.
Bob attended the Spencerville Schools and served in the Army in VietNam. He worked as a truck driver for the former Buckeye Rubber Co. in Lima and then DBJ Trucking in Spencerville.
He was a member of the Robert Lee Griner VFW Post 9289 in St. Marys. He enjoyed OSU Football, fishing, camping and family trips.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, with his brothers; Rev. Jim Shaner and Mike Shaner officiating. Burial will follow in the Veterans section of the Spencerville Cemetery with the Army Honor Guard and the St. Marys veterans conducting military rites.
The family will receive friends from 2/4 and 6/8 PM Sunday and after 10 AM Monday at the funeral home.
