Mendon;  Robert E. "Bob" Smothers, 63, of rural Mendon, passed away at 5:40 PM Wednesday, August 11, 2021 in Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center, with his family at his side.

He was born December 31, 1957 in Lebanon, KY., the son of the late James E. and Ruby Hart Smothers. On August 22, 2003 he married Debbi J. Boltz, who survives, along with their children; Victoria (Roger) Wells,  Stormy (Jordan) Kill and Jarrett Weilacher, all of Spencerville, LeAnna Smothers, Laura Smothers and Robert Smothers, Jr., all of St. Marys; grandkids, Reagan Wells, Addilynn Wells, Autumn Mitchell-Wolfe, Braylen Kill, Isaiah Kill, Charley Smith and Bristol Smith and his siter, Karen Smothers of St. Marys.

Preceding him in death are his sisters, Rita Smothers and Charlene Brown.

Bob attended the New Knoxville Schools and earned his GED. He owned and operated the Smothers Family Trucking Company, retiring with 35 years service as an over-the-road trucker.

His special love of life was to be with his family, especially his grandkids, hunting, fishing and raising livestock.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at 1 PM in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, with his son-in-law Jordan Kill officiating. Burial  will be at a later date in the Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.

Friends may call from 11 AM until 1 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
